About Me
I have been married for 13 {lucky} years to my high school sweetheart, Matt and have a 3 year old son, Sam, who was the inspiration to brush up on my photography skills and get my first dslr camera in 2008.
Though I took a photography class as a senior in high school, I did not think of pursuing it as a career then since film was a bit cost prohibitive for me as a college student. I worked in different aspects of accounting for 12 years, which was never really my “thing,” though I did well enough. I must say that it was very good prep for running a business and dealing with taxes and such!
Fast forward to November 2007 when Sam was born and, of course, we took tons and tons of photos of him. But, something just wasn’t right with our little point and shoot camera we shoved in our pockets on our trips to Europe. It just wasn’t fast enough to catch all those little moments I was longing to capture and preserve in my memory.
So…I got my first dslr when Sam was a year old and started shooting like a mad woman. I also started reading and studying everything I possibly could about photography and processing techniques and skills so I could get the results I was after. I took over 15,000 photos the first year with my camera-SHEW!!
It was around that time I started getting a lot of really great feedback and compliments on my images and also had friends and family start asking me if I would photograph (for money *gasp*) their families and children. I was surprised and honored and never really realized how much time and work I had put into getting to that point until then.
I really thought hard and did a lot of research about what it would take if I would like to pursue this as a “job” and not just a hobby and what that would entail. It was then I had an epiphany-I REALLY loved doing all of this. Even the not so fun parts, like looking up business license requirements and tax laws for small businesses. Nothing about it seemed like too much trouble because I wanted it so much.
It took me 34 years, but I feel like I’ve finally found my passion in life. I’m so thankful that my sweet little boy helped me find it-I had been searching for a long time. I also need to give a big shout out to my wonderfully supportive husband who has held my hand through getting all of this sorted out and for believing in me.
